Where it came from
Ilkal cotton
A cotton body and a silk pallu, joined by a row of hand-tied loops.
The join is called tope teni: the pallu is woven separately in pure silk, then locked to the cotton body loop by loop. It is the reason an Ilkal drapes heavy at one end and light at the other.
